Dortmund (usually). The CargoTrailSense project at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences is being extended. Research into the use of sensors for optimal load distribution when loading trucks can be continued thanks to follow-up federal funding of 2.2 million euros. The system is now to be further developed and tested on different truck types. The FH Dortmund heads the consortium of project partners.
The research team from the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences, together with partners from industry, developed a combination of sensors that optimizes the load distribution in trucks as soon as they are loaded. This contributes to safety on the road, but also to efficiency when loading.
In the sequel “CargoTrailSense_AI”, the partners want to develop a practical system for determining wheel and axle loads on trucks. The sensors should not only monitor the charge and its distribution. The researchers can also use the data to draw conclusions about damage to the vehicle and the condition of the roads.
